Immigration Exams

What are immigration exams?

Immigration exams are a mandatory part of obtaining a green card, permanent residency, or United States citizenship. You also need a physical exam in order to be eligible for work after you immigrate to the United States.

Coral Springs Medical & Dental has authorized physicians on staff who have the necessary clearance to perform immigration exams under the authority of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

What do I need to bring with me to my immigration exam?

When you visit Coral Springs Medical & Dental for an immigration exam, you need to bring certain documents:

  • Photo ID (driver's license or passport)
  • Vaccination and immunization records
  • Form I-693
  • Previous X-rays
  • Laboratory results
  • A list of any medications you're taking
  • A medical insurance card (if you have one)

You also need to remember your payment.

What happens at an immigration exam?

The first part of your immigration exam at Coral Springs Medical & Dental is a review of your medical history. Your provider then performs a thorough physical examination, checking your:

  • Vital signs
  • Eyes and ears
  • Nose and throat
  • Abdomen
  • Heart
  • Lungs
  • Arms and legs
  • Skin
  • Lymph nodes
  • External genitalia

Your provider also needs to evaluate your mental health, perform a test for any drugs in your system, and check your blood test results to see if you have any communicable diseases. You might also need to have certain immunizations.

If you have a medical condition that requires treatment, your provider at Coral Springs Medical & Dental can help with this too.

What do I need to do after the immigration exam?

Once you pass your immigration exam, your provider fills out the relevant section of your I-693 form. They place the form in an envelope and seal it, ready for you to return to the USCIS. You also get a copy to keep.

You must make sure to complete your section of the I-693 before returning the form; otherwise, your application may experience a serious delay.
